Linda Adeyinka Oladunni achieved her initial goal in Texas in the United States of an Associates Degree in Business through her enrollment in the Texas State Technical College system of 2-year colleges. The Texas Education Code establishes the purpose of the Texas State Technical College system as designated to provide vocational and technical education for students entering the workforce. The Associate of Applied Science degree, the Associate of Science degree and traditional degree programs of Associate of Science in biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics and nursing studies are all avenues of study offered by the Texas State Technical College system. Additional TSTC campuses in Amarillo, Sweetwater, McAllen, Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Marshall would be added through the 90’s.

Her goal was to earn her Bachelors of Science Degree for Business Management. Fort Brown, an historic U.S. Army outpost established in 1846 on the north side of the Rio Grande, is the site of today’s UTB. The intention of the original Fort Brown earthwork was to oversee the activities of Matamoros, a fortified and strategic community on the south side of the Rio Grande during the Texas Revolution. The opening of the Mexican-American War which began the next year saw two Americans killed at the Fort, one being Major Jacob Brown. General Zachary Taylor, later to be the 12th President of the United States, renamed the post Fort Brown in the fallen Major’s honor.

Linda Oladunni’s summer coursework at John Jay University of the City University of New York in New York State in the United States was well over by the time of the second financial crisis of John Jay in 1995. Projected funding cuts by the state of $162M propelled CUNY into strong budget cutting measures, including a decision to deny admission to students unprepared for collegiate academics, which ended the Open Admissions program. This decision also ended the need for remedial programs. CUNY also increased tuition by $750. and initiated a retirement incentive for faculty members. Again, John Jay remained viable. Despite the sorrow and shock of 67 students and alumni lost in the World Trade Center attacks, John Jay resumed classes on September 13 with a new point of view for its students.

Open Admissions Policy Benefits Linda Oladunni

The John Jay University of Linda Oladunni has a long history of vigorous and impassioned debate and discussion of legal and political issues in the United States.  In 1970, faculty professor Abe Blumberg criticized actions of the FBI and Director Edgar Hoover in a graduate course on sociology of the law.  As a result, an agent in his course, Jack Shaw, wrote a Master’s thesis which found validity in some of Blumberg’s criticisms.  FBI Director Hoover demanded the resignation of Shaw and issued an ultimatum: if Professor Blumberg remained at the College, no FBI agents would enroll at John Jay.  President Riddle of John Jay College defended Blumberg on the principle of academic freedom, and when Director Hoover died in 1972, FBI agents again enrolled at John Jay.

Linda Oladunni took summer classes at John Jay University at CUNY in the United States in 1989, years after the initiation of an open admissions program which she would benefit from years later.  City University of New York placed their planned early admissions program in effect years before it was intended to begin in 1975, due to a demonstration by students who objected to the dominantly white student body.  The Open Admissions Policy which went into effect in 1970 allowed any high school graduate who desired to attend an admission.  The policy meant that John Jay’s enrollment multiplied to over 8000 by 1973, with the faculty growing over 200%.  Non-law enforcement students also arrived, precipitating the initiation of English, math, American studies and chemistry programs.

Linda Oladunni ran the daycare center Little Angels in Hyattsville, Maryland for a year while she studied Business Management. Today, she lives with her husband, Dr. Joseph Oladunni, in Harlingen, Texas, where she uses her experience and education to own and operate a gas station there. She has built her business in Rio Grand Valley constantly for the past 16 years. Oladunni cut her teeth as a small business owner by running Little Angels in Maryland, dealing with the unique concerns, struggles, and pressures of running a daycare center.

Linda Oladunni was in charge of parents’ children for eight hours a day, every day. Because of her great responsibility, she had to work closely with parents to ensure that the children get everything they need throughout their time in her care. Linda Oladunni made sure to earn her customers’ trust so that they will leave their children with her at Little Angels. She had to develop a higher degree of trust than many other businesses due to the nature of her business. Oladunni not only had to reassure her clients that their children were safe and happy in her care, she also had to ensure that the children themselves were impressed by her facility so that they would want to come to daycare. It’s much easier to leave children in places they want to go in a place that is safe and fun.

Linda Oladunni is from Nigeria, sometimes referred to as the “Giant of Africa” because of its huge population and oil. Oladunni was born in the largest city of the country, Lagos. With about 182 million people, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh-most populous country in the world. Oladunni moved from her home in Lagos to London in 1989, beginning a journey that would lead her to great success in her lifetime. After working in London for several months, she moved to the United States. Today, she owns and operates a gas station in Rio Grand Valley, Texas, where she lives with her husband. They have three grown children.

Linda OladunniAlthough the official language of Nigeria is English—the result of decades of British colonial rule—it is considered a multinational country. People of over 500 different ethnicities speaking 500 different languages live in Nigeria. Linda Oladunni moved away to pursue greater opportunities for education and business, in recent years, Nigeria has emerged as a regional power in Africa and a player on the international trade stage. As of 2015, Nigeria had the world’s 20th largest economy, the largest in the continent, overtaking South Africa in 2014. It is a founding member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the African Union, OPEC, and the United Nations. Linda Oladunni is sure of visiting her home country frequently after retirement.
